Abstract

Clinical simulation is a pedagogical tool that enables students in Nursing to participate in controlled clinical interventions to obtain significant knowledge to prepare for situations in their future role as professional nurses. This is also effective in the development of competencies and skills that allow safe, ensured interventions given that the use of simulation is not a substitute for supervised practice in a real environment but a desirable complement to reliable attention in healthcare. It is necessary to consider this aspect of simulation, especially in the case of paediatric users as this goes together with the  uarantee of necessary, precise measures which the students ought to take in this specific type of medical practice. On the other hand, given the complexity of organising the pre-professional curricular practices in health institutions, dealing with all aspects of nursing care is not always a possibility, due to the massive number of students enrolled in the degree programme for Nursing. This is particularly so in the study content seen in the area of Infant and Juvenile Nursing Care of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Health (FCVyS) of the Universidad Autónoma de Entre Ríos (UADER). This is why the teaching team of the faculty decided to implement clinical simulation strategies with the students enrolled in the course in 2023.

In general terms, this type of practice, in accordance with the exploratory information obtained, following the commencement of skills related workshops, revealed the importance given by these same students to clinical simulation.
