Abstract

This paper aims to develop an explanatory and interpretive conceptual framework to analyze the factors that enabled the emergence and development of Librarianship and its teaching at the Faculty of Management Sciences (FCG) of the
Autonomous University of Entre Ríos (UADER), located in the province of Entre Ríos. It argues that the trajectory of Librarianship at FCG has been continuously redefined in response to multiple historical and structural vectors. On the one hand, the neoliberal socioeconomic context and the centrality acquired by management sciences imposed an organizational and productivist logic that shaped the curricular configuration. On the other hand, technological and disciplinary transformations in Librarianship at the international level demanded the constant updating of knowledge, competencies, and pedagogical approaches. Locally, disputes over professional legitimacy were expressed in tensions between technical degrees and teaching recognition, between traditional imaginaries and emerging institutional demands. Furthermore, the incorporation of the program into the university system occurred under pre-existing non-university conditions, leading to a complex transformation involving formative, normative, and epistemological inheritances alongside emerging institutional horizons thus configuring a university program in continuous evolution. Librarianship at FCG not only reflects curricular evolution but also reveals an ongoing struggle over the meaning, place, and legitimacy of the discipline within the educational, social, and political fabric of the province.
