Introduction
Horticultural producing families in Argentine cities play a fundamental role in local food supply. These families suffer from high vulnerability in their economies, jobs, health and well-being, with food being crossed by a heavy workload and daily activities.
Objective
Analyze food, work and time use, with a gender perspective in horticultural producers in the cities of Santa Fe and Paraná.
Methodology
Study with a quantitative, descriptive and transversal approach, using a survey of adult horticultural producers who lived with at least 1 adult of the opposite sex. Data analyzed with descriptive statistics with Microsoft Excel (2010).
Results
56 men and women who lived in families of 4 to 5 people participated: mothers, fathers and children. Fair producers have up to 5 points of sale that involve men and women: at fairs and at home delivery bags. In both men and women, lack of time is considered the factor that affects meals. A diet rich in sugars and starches was found; low consumption of vegetable-based preparations. The most consumed preparations are simple and quick to prepare, mainly boiled in a pot. Lack of money and time appeared as an obstacle for a better diet. Men and women showed a high workload of hours of paid work and little leisure time. Women are more tired and busy with unpaid work and domestic chores.
Conclusions
The load of activities and work is very great. Food, personal care and leisure are aspects to be improved in this population to achieve greater well-being. Access to vegetables is not a guarantee of their inclusion in families diets.
