The objective of this article is to relate change in class structure and intergenerational social mobility with the economic ups and downs and changes in accumulation models in the history of Argentina. To this end, we took studies by classical authors such as Torrado and Germani along with current authors
such as Dalle, Benza and Jorrat, etc., to describe how the variation of social structures and social mobility in Argentina has been. We also sought a response to the question: Has this evolution been in consonance with the different economic processes in Argentina? In principle, we could conclude that a directly proportional relationship does not exist between periods of growth (or crisis) of the economy and a fall in social mobility or of the country’s middle class. This study will help us to understand some historic facts in relation to the country’s class structure; then, these findings will be applied to research the same theme in the province of Entre Ríos.
