Studies by the WHO/OPS indicate that mental illnesses are within the five primary causes of illness in America. To recognise and understand these mental ailments it is important to first break with stereotypes and false beliefs, overcome prejudices and stigmatisation towards persons, and especially dolescents, suffering this type of illness. In Argentina, 1 out of 3 persons suffers a mental health problem from the age of 20. (1) Considering that adolescence is one of the most fascinating phases of life and perhaps also the most complex, when young people assume new responsibilities and experiment with a new sensation of independence, there is the objective of establishing systems of epidemiological surveillance for the early monitoring of mental health needs and opportune attention campaigns for the promotion and maintenance of mental health. Also to be considered are: the pertinence of incorporating changes in some health policies to amplify and facilitate immediate access to Health Centres, the following up of cases, community centres and other such factors in order to receive efficient treatment. Work was carried out with 284 applied surveys and the data thus obtained from the total Beck questionnaire shows us that only 26% of all adolescents do not present some type of depressed conduct, going from light (depression) with an of 38,7%, to moderate 23,9% and serious 11,2%.
