Abstract

The aim of this article is to identify continuities and ruptures in the relationship between the national government and the provinces in terms of educational
funding. To this end, we analyse Argentina's National Subsidies Law, from its enactment to its repeal. We start from the hypothesis that the subsidy policy can be divided into four stages, which were delimited by the enactment of the Láinez Law in 1905, the rise of Peronism in 1946 and the decree that enabled the transfer of national schools to the provinces in 1956. We intend to show that each of these stages expressed different forms of negotiation between the nation and the provinces. The investigation explores the criteria established for its distribution, its implementation, the claims and the reforms it was subject to in each of the stages .
